A Saturday morning. Was there anything better? No school and even better summer was just starting, summer before their first year in college. It was going to be magical. Dressing for the day, chores first and then meeting Adam for lunch. Dancing around the house, as she cleaned, her father chuckling to himself at his daughter but didn’t get in her way as she spruced up the downstairs and finished with the kitchen. Reaching into her pocket feeling her phone vibrate followed by a loud beep indicating a text. She paused her dancing to read it. Smiling seeing it was from Adam. Clicking a reply saying she wouldn’t be long that she would meet him at Morning Glory. Pocketing her phone, she finished up her cleaning, finishing with a load of laundry. Sighing, satisfied with a morning of work she then popped her head into the living room, ” I’m off to meet Adam, Dad!” Diana called to him blowing her father a kiss before heading out of the door, muffling her father’s goodbye as she left. Leaving the street looking down the path toward Adam’s house and then flicked her eyes to Faye. So many of their circle lived on this street that she could hardly believe it was a coincidence. Walking only for a little while toward the café and headed inside scanning the tables for her boyfriend. A bright smile filled her face seeing him as she hurried along to the table he had selected, ” Hi!” She greeted brightly as she sank into the seat opposite him, ” Sorry I’m late… Chores.” Diana offered as an explanation. She could probably put it down to her bad dancing as she cleaned the downstairs of her home too, but its what made something mind numbingly boring just that little bit more fun. Adam Conant

As Diana walked through the double doors of the café, Adam couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. He had been eagerly awaiting their lunch date, and seeing her approach filled him with warmth and anticipation. Rising from his seat, he pulled out a chair for her with a gentle smile, admiring her as she settled into her seat opposite him.
"Diana," he greeted softly, his voice filled with genuine affection. "You're always worth the wait. I've missed you."
Their hands intertwined naturally as they sat across from each other, and Adam couldn't help but be drawn into the depths of her mesmerizing blue-green eyes. She looked radiant, her sunlit hair cascading around her shoulders in soft waves. He noticed that it had grown a bit longer since the last time they had seen each other, and he found himself yearning to run his fingers through its silky strands.
"It's okay, love," he reassured her, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "I'm just glad to see you. How was your morning?" His gaze lingered on her, unable to tear himself away from her enchanting presence.

Walking through the main doors to the café she quickly scanned the tables for her boyfriend. She smiled brightly when she saw him and didn’t waste any time in getting to the table he had chosen. Ever chivalrous he was standing and pulling out her chair before she even got over there. She smiled kindly at him, ” Thank you. “ She told him as she slipped down into her chair.
” I’ve missed you too. Summer was so quiet without you here.” Diana told him, a touch of sadness to her voice. She had missed him. First time them being alone since him coming back, he had arrived back in time for Kori’s Initiation into the coven and Faye’s Party. It was nice spending time with him and the rest of their circle, but sometimes she just wanted him to herself.
She interlaced her fingers through his as she sat on the opposite side of the table. Once she was sat and settled, she apologised to being late. He wouldn’t hold it against her, never had. Punctuality was her middle name usually, ” Well chores aren’t great but the dancing around my living room while I cleaned up was fun.” Diana laughed, ” Dad gave me a look more than once thinking I was completely mad.” Diana smiled, shrugging gently.
”How was yours?”

Adam chuckled at Diana's description of her morning routine. "I would pay to see that," he said, a warm twinkle in his stormy blue-grey eyes. "I happen to rather like your dancing."
His mind couldn't help but wander back to the magical night of Prom, where Diana had enchanted him with her ethereal presence. Her dress had transformed her into an otherworldly goddess, reminiscent of a Mucha painting come to life. They had danced the night away, losing themselves in each other's company until the first light of dawn kissed the sky. It was a memory he held dear.
"Grand was being a pain in my ass this morning," Adam continued a playful smirk on his lips. "She decided while I was away that the entire pantry needed to be re-organized. She took everything out of the cupboards and then forgot what was what. I'm not kidding, Diana; she took off all the labels."
A vivid image formed in his mind of his elderly great-grandmother standing precariously on a ladder, arms filled with jars of pickles, a sight that made him shake his head in both amusement and exasperation. "So, my morning was spent deciphering the mysteries of a label-less pantry," he added, a lighthearted tone in his voice.

Diana laughed a little when he said that it would be something that he would like to see and she winked back at him playfully, ” Perhaps one day you will.” Diana teased a little. A small hint to their future together one day. They were going strong. Her love for him hadn’t ever wavered, ” Me standing on your toes at prom wasn’t enough for you then?” She laughed again. Joking aside she could dance, and dance well. Father’s daughter dances (where she actually stood on her dads’ feet when she was really young) had seen to that early on in life, ” Prom was an amazing night. If only magic could stop time just for a little while…” She added wistfully. She wasn’t one for using magic for personal gain, but that night to steal just a little more time, she would have.
Diana then asked about his morning, and she then raised an eyebrow when he mentioned his grandmother being a pain. When he mentioned about the pantry her jaw dropped for a moment in shock. Realizing she looked like a fish she closed her mouth she closed her mouth, ” I’m sorry…” Diana told him just picturing his kitchen strewn with tins and jars and having to play a wild guess at what was inside. Apologising out of sympathy for his situation more than anything.
While he had been gone, she had looked in on his grandparents from time to time. He hadn’t asked it of her, but Diana knew he had to have been worried about leaving them alone. She chuckled a little more at his plight than at the situation. It was something completely unheard of that it was almost funny, ” Did you get it sorted? Do you need me to come by and help?” She offered seriously.

Adam couldn't help but smile at Diana's playful teasing, her wink sparking a warmth in his chest. The future she hinted at felt exciting and comforting, a beacon of hope amidst life's uncertainties. Her love had always been a steadfast anchor, grounding him in moments of doubt.
"Standing on my toes was definitely a highlight," Adam chuckled, recalling the memory fondly. Diana's graceful movements on the dance floor had mesmerized him as she did now. He admired her ability to find joy in simple moments, even amidst the chaos of everyday life. The server returned their order, a shared pastry and two cups of warm liquid. He had taken the time to order her favorites, which came fresh from the oven.
As Diana expressed her wistful longing for magic to halt time, Adam's heart swelled affectionately. He shared her sentiment, understanding the desire to savor precious moments a little longer. "If only," he murmured softly, his gaze lingering on her.
As the conversation shifted to his morning, he couldn't help but chuckle at Diana's wide-eyed reaction to the pantry mishap. "Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise. Grandmother was on a mission to organize, but I think she created more chaos." He waved off her apology with a grin. "No need to be sorry. It's a bit comical, really."
Her offer to help didn't go unnoticed, and Adam's expression softened with gratitude. "I managed to sort most of it out eventually, but your help would always be welcome. Maybe we can turn it into a game – guess the mystery jar. Could be fun; you can be my pantry whisperer." he suggested, appreciating the genuine concern in her offer.

She blinked when the server came to her table. Confusion on her face for a split second. She soon realized that he had ordered for them both, and her favourites too she smiled at him with gratitude. Latte was her favourite coffee but pastry she loved any flavour, ” Oh my god that smells incredible…” She commented all but drooling over the pastry which smelled fresh and still warm. Best way to have a pastry but still just as good cold.
They seemed to both remember prom, that night had been magical. To them that could mean a lot of things, but it had been magical with no intervention from them. The purest kind of magic, moments that you made yourself, with no power. Their eyes met for a moment when they both shared the briefest moment to stop time that night and live in it for blissful eternity. She smiled wistfully and stroked her thumb over the back of his hand.
She shifted the conversation to ask about his morning. While he was explaining she reached for the knife the pastry had come with to cut it into equal halves as he spoke. The shock at his words was evident. She did her best not to laugh. Of all things that could happen, it was just absurd and unheard of, ” Well you know what they say about where good intentions lead you.” She told him wryly, ” Bless her she was only trying to help.” Diana added a little sadly.
She knew it must be hard for Adam sometimes. Looking after his grandparents in addition to himself. It was something he shouldn’t ever have had to deal with. Mother nature had been cruel to them both but Adam even more so. With that Diana offered her help. At least what help she could be, ” I read in a book a revealing spell… perhaps it can come in handy!” She offered. It probably wouldn’t work. It was probably geared at revealing other spells and energy rather than the contents of a jar or tin, ” Though probably wouldn’t work too well on a jar of jam...” She added as she reached for her latte, taking a small sip. Still just a little too hot…

Adam chuckled at Diana's suggestion, the lighthearted moment momentarily lifting the weight of his morning. Her laughter was a balm to his soul, and the warmth in her eyes resonated with a shared understanding. The idea of a magical label maker, impervious to the perils of hot water, brought a genuine smile to his face.
"Conjure up a magical label maker?" he replied, enjoying the playful banter. A smile curled at the corners of his lips, and he took a sip of his black coffee. He had missed this, missed her so much over the summer. Adam appreciated Diana's ability to infuse levity into even the most mundane moments, creating a comfortable and carefree atmosphere. They chatted for awhile, and the pastry was divided and eaten.
However, the whimsical conversation took a serious turn as Adam shifted the salt shaker and drew a small B shaped rune in salt on the table. A hushed incantation escaped his lips, sealing their words from prying ears. The atmosphere grew quiet as the spell took effect, and Adam's eyes met Diana's with a gravity that mirrored the weight of his revelation.
"I ran into witch hunters while at Cape Cod," he confessed, the words carrying a weight that went beyond the tabletop rune. The brief respite of magic and laughter gave way to the harsh reality of their world, and Adam couldn't help but feel a surge of protectiveness over Diana, knowing the dangers that lurked in the shadows.

Diana laughed with him at the hilarity and absurdity of her suggestion. It made both of them laugh. She enjoyed it. The sound of them laughing together, just being together. She had missed this, more than she thought possible while he had been away, ” Stranger things have happened…” She murmured through a bite of her half of the pastry.
They sat conversation flowed so easily between them. There was no awkward silences as you had with some conversations. They talked and laughed as the pastry’s went down a treat accompanied with the lovely coffee you could only get from this café. House cups just did not measure up…
While she was finishing the last of her coffee. She watched as Adam poured some salt onto the table and she creased her eyebrows in confusion. She watched him trace the rune followed by a short, hushed incantation. Just like that it felt like they were in a literal bubble, the air shifted, perceptible to her with magic but not to others. Their words she knew wouldn’t reach far beyond this table. Privacy in a busy café.
The words which slipped out of Adam’s mouth next had her reeling. Her sparkle in her eyes completely dimmed, smile gone at his words. Her worry was for them all, but more so for him, ” What happened?” She asked him her voice hushed, despite the bubble making their conversation completely silent to everyone else, ” Did they see you?” Diana asked him. Her worry right now for him more than anyone else.

Adam's heart sank as he watched the sparkle fade from Diana's eyes, replaced by a shadow of worry. He hadn't meant to alarm her but knew she deserved the truth. Taking a deep breath, he reached across the table to gently grasp her hand, offering her what comfort he could.
"I'm alright" he reassured her, his voice calm despite the underlying tension. "But I came too close for comfort. I was taking Raj for a run along the beach, and they were tracking something or someone, and I inadvertently crossed paths with them. Four guys all with the build of linebackers, and one of them had a gun."
He paused, choosing his words carefully as he continued, "I managed to conceal myself before they found me, but it was a close call. I got some help from a friendly bystander who tipped me off, and helped me hide. They're relentless, Diana, and grilled that poor girl for a good twenty minutes before they moved on."
Adam's gaze bore into Diana's, filled with determination and concern. "I'll be more cautious from now on, I promise. I just don't know how they knew, it's not like we have big signs over our head that says 'witch.' I wasn't casting any spells the entire summer, so nobody from the crew would have turned me in. Well, that and everyone on deck was from here..." He squeezed her hand gently, silently conveying his gratitude for her understanding and support in this perilous quest. "I don't think they would have dared do anything if we were on our home turf."
He sighed, regretting bringing the mood down and stroked her delicate fingers with his worn, calloused thumb.

Diana didn’t really know if she was breathing when Adam told her the story of his time in Cape Cod. She gripped his hand just a little tighter when he offered her comfort. She took it but it nothing to assuage her worry for him. If he had been seen or caught. If he hadn’t of come back… she quickly removed that thought from her head before it took real root. It was fine he was here. Safe. Were both safe… She reminded herself. For now, at the very least. Adam knew their faces… they would know if they came for them.
Diana had to know if that had seen his face, knew what he looked like, what he was. The more he explained the calmer she felt, and she nodded a small smile on her face, ” I’ll have to find and thank this girl who helped you…” She smiled gripping his hand a little tighter, by Goddess she was grateful.
She nodded when he said that he would be more careful. It was true what he said next. They didn’t go around flashing their power, and they were humans. It made her wonder how they knew, how they could tell them apart from say the rest of the people in this café, ” I wouldn’t put it past them…” Diana murmured, ” Their all crazy and would do just about anything to see us all dead.” Diana told him.
She smiled at him though none the less. They weren’t here as far as they knew, for now it was safe, ” We should warn the others though, to be careful in how and when they use their magic.” Diana considered. Some were more carefree with their use of magic, and it was exactly that, that could bring the hunters down on them, ” They might not be here now, but they could come here.” Diana sighed.
She leaned forward a little bit on the table then her free hand reaching out to touch his cheek, ” I’m just so glad you’re safe…” She told him gently and leaned forward a little more, pressed her lips to his.

Adam felt relief and gratitude as Diana gripped his hand tighter, her concern palpable. Her support was a comforting anchor, grounding him in the present moment. As she expressed her desire to thank the girl who had aided him, he couldn't help but smile, appreciating Diana's innate kindness and gratitude. "Yeah, maybe one day we'll find her" he agreed, squeezing her hand in return. "I owe her a lot."
The conversation shifted to the dangers they faced, the looming threat of the hunters who seemed relentless in their pursuit. Diana's words resonated with truth, and Adam nodded in agreement. "I wish I understood their motives, it would make it easier to protect the others. I mean, I don't worry about the more sensible members of our coven..." He paused to take a drink of his cooling coffee. "...but those who are a bit more reckless, like Faye?" He let the statement linger, unanswered.
As she leaned forward, Adam felt a rush of warmth when Diana's hand touched his cheek. Her words, filled with relief and love, washed over him like a soothing balm. Her lips pressed against his, a tender affirmation of their shared emotions. At that moment, surrounded by the buzz of the café, Adam felt a profound connection to her. He returned the kiss with equal gentleness, silently grateful for her presence and their safety in each other's company.
"Speaking of witches, what should we do with the skull?"

Any other girl would of probably been a green eyed monster at the mention of a female stranger that had helped her boyfriend. Not Diana. One thing in her life that she remained confident in was this relationship. She gripped his hand a little tighter, he was ok. She knew that. Found herself saying that she wanted to find the girl and thank her for what she had done. The girl probably didn’t realize that she had saved Adams life. Not just saved him from taking a beating, ” Maybe we will.” Diana returned the sentiment, ” She probably thinks she just saved you from taking a beating… she probably doesn’t realize that she actually saved your life.” Diana mused over the thought. They owed her, whoever she may be, a lot.
Diana then mentioned that they should tell the others in the coven. To be careful and cautious. Those were her middle names. She wanted everyone to have fun but be safe while they did it! Not too much to ask… [color=orchid” I know what you mean. Probably best to just assume the worst. They are hunters… they are here to kill us.” [/color] Diana stated, ” Assume the worst, and you won’t underestimate them.” Diana said with a small shrug. When he mentioned about others who were reckless with their magic, and he didn’t even have to mention her name. Diana’s own mind went there straight away, ” She is a force of nature, she knows her own mind and she won’t listen to us.” Diana told him. Her cousin Faye… very much a love hate relationship. Diana was just concerned that the liberties she took with her own magic, could cast a light on others. However unintentional it might be.
She sighed unsure what to make of it all. The only thing that she knew was that she was just grateful that he was safe. She made that known as she leaned across the small table a hand on his cheek as she leaned in and kissed him, gentle soft and sweet. Inside their silent little bubble, gratitude, safety and love was all they felt as they shared the kiss.
They separated and she leaned back just slightly in her seat as his next question was asked. About the skull. Last time it had been used, it had been used with dark magic. She was apprehensive about using it, ” Find the strongest cleaning, purifying spell we can find and cleanse it.” Diana told him. It would need to be a strong one, ” We shouldn’t use it yet. Goddess knows what could happen if we do.” Diana told him with a small smile, ” You found it though. Ultimately the choice should be yours.” Diana said. Ever the voice of reason. He risked his life for it, and Diana would support his choice regardless if it disagreed with her view.

Adam pondered Diana's words about the mysterious girl with the wildflower blue eyes who intervened on his behalf. There was gratitude in her voice, not a trace of jealousy or insecurity. His heart swelled with pride, and he felt fortunate to have her by his side, someone who trusted their relationship and valued his safety. Her suggestion of finding and thanking the girl echoed his sentiments. Perhaps the stranger deserved recognition beyond her current perception of a simple act of kindness.
Diana's cautious approach to the presence of witch hunters resonated with Adam. Assume the worst, a survivalist's philosophy, and he nodded in agreement. Her concern for those who might be reckless with their magic led his thoughts to Faye, a free spirit with a penchant for pushing boundaries. Diana's cousin could be an unintentional beacon for trouble, and Adam shared the sentiment of unease regarding her magical liberties.
Their shared sighs conveyed the weight of the situation, but gratitude for his safety lingered in the air. As Diana leaned in for a gentle kiss, Adam reciprocated with tenderness. It was a silent exchange of reassurance and affection, a moment shared within the comforting confines of their bond.
Adam felt the weight of responsibility when the topic shifted to the crystal skull. Diana's cautious stance aligned with his concerns about the artifact's dark history. Her suggestion of finding a potent cleansing spell resonated with his own thoughts. The comfort of her support eased the burden, and he took a moment to appreciate her unwavering reason.
As Diana spoke of the choice ultimately being his, Adam contemplated the recent events. The image of the skull buried in the backyard flashed in his mind. Kate's sensible words about the grounding power of Earth made sense. He met her gaze with a thoughtful expression, considering her proposal for a full-circle assessment and a full cleansing. He wanted to give it a full year to cleanse, but knew that ultimately the skull wasn't his. It belonged to everyone.
"I think we should go with Kate's idea, and do a scrying session. " He said, his tone cautious. "It makes sense, we could get an assessment of any residual energy and then take it from there. We can do a double circle of protection, and all the necessary precautions."

Witch Hunters… Diana didn’t even know what to think. Of course she had heard of them. Thought that maybe they were a thing of the past. This wasn’t the Salem Witch Trials… a time in history where they killed more people that actual witches. She was simply grateful that someone was there to help Adam, when he needed it. The thought of what could have happened…. Well, she didn’t want to think about it. Their conversation shifted to the Crystal Skull. Diana had one idea. Purify it, cleanse it and then do it all over again until they could be certain of what energy remained. Without that she didn’t even want to consider using it. Others had echoed her thoughts, Kate being one of them. Though Adam had found it, and as she had just learned, risked his life for it. She would support the decision he made with it, regardless of who else in the coven would disagree. She smiled a little, she had known where Adam would fall. He was as sensible as she was, ” Scrying it is then…” Diana agreed as simply as that, ” Your element or mine?” Diana asked. Adam having an affinity and connection with water would scry well with that. Since she didn’t signify with any element, she used a mirror. ” While I agree it should be buried and let the earth work its own magic it will also take too long…” Diana answered, ” Others in the coven… I think they might get impatient.” Diana told him. Ever the peacekeeper, leading a coven with so many conflicting personalities was a challenge… and one sometimes she couldn’t help but feel that she failed at miserably, ” There is every possibility that burying it would take so much longer than a year.” She finished her coffee and then sighed with a smile, ” Looks like we have a lot of spell work to do today, and a pantry to organise and label.” Diana smiled, ” Shall we get going?” Adam Conant
