Number Two was originally built in the late 1600's, but underwent a large renovation during the Victorian Era to include decorative frescos, dormer windows and ornate moldings. Once the same New Salem brick colour as many of the other houses, it has been painted a bold two-tone blue, with vibrant purple trim surrounded by a burnished yellow. The stone lions out front have been spray painted a metallic gold, and inside the mouth of each lion there is a red painted sigil. Bordering the house are huge hydrangea bushes, asters lilies and columbine flowers surrounding the landscape. A black wrought iron fence borders the property and opens to the courtyard, where the old stables and carriage house reside. A pathway of stone leads onward from the main house to the carriage house, and down to the back gate that leads to the beach.
The house has retained much of the original woodwork, radiator/cooler systems, ornate fireplace mantles and showcases a impressive backyard veranda overlooking the ocean behind the property. The Carriage house, where Freya and her father live is situated close to the courtyard, sharing the driveway with the main house. It has expansive, arched wide double doors and small, utilitarian windows. The brick walls have been lime washed in a creamy white, and the cupola on the roof provides ventilation and adding a decorative element. Access to the hayloft is given by a side staircase on the outside.
The interior of the renovated carriage house exudes a rustic yet contemporary charm, blending modern design elements with the historical character of the original structure. The walls of the interior are adorned with a soft lime wash, creating a muted, textured appearance. The lime wash allows glimpses of the original brickwork to peek through in certain areas, serving as a reminder of the building's rich history. This combination of lime-washed walls and exposed brick adds warmth and authenticity to the space. Rough-hewn wooden beams traverse the ceiling, their natural grain and aged patina contributing to the overall aesthetic. These beams not only provide structural support but also introduce a touch of rustic elegance. The combination of the wooden beams and lime-washed walls creates a visually appealing contrast.
The flooring is made of sleek, polished concrete, adding a modern and industrial touch to the space. The smooth surface of the concrete floor complements the textured walls and serves as a versatile backdrop for a variety of furnishings. The cool tones of the concrete provide a contemporary counterpoint to the warm hues of the exposed brick and wooden beams. A narrow double staircase takes center stage, leading to the upper levels of the carriage house. The staircase is a harmonious blend of form and function, featuring wooden steps with a simple, yet elegant, railing. The design is open and airy, allowing for an unobstructed view of the space.
Strategically placed modern and vintage furniture pieces enhance the overall ambiance. Comfy seating areas are arranged near the lime-washed walls, creating cozy nooks for relaxation. The furniture selections balance comfort with style, featuring a mix of plush textiles and clean lines. Well-placed pendant lights with vintage-inspired designs hang from the ceiling, casting a warm and inviting glow throughout the space. Two large windows, adorned with simple and elegant drapery, allow natural light to filter in during the day.
Freya's room is upstairs, the ceiling painted in deep, celestial blue hues, creating an enchanting backdrop reminiscent of a night sky. Ethereal murals of crescent moons, stars, and constellations are hand-painted, adding a touch of cosmic magic to the space. Gauzy, flowing curtains in shades of midnight blue and silver hang from the windows, billowing gently with any hint of a breeze. Dream catchers adorned with feathers and crystals sway near the bed, capturing both dreams and positive energies.
The bed, positioned against one of the lime-washed walls, features a plush canopy with sheer fabric that cascades down like a waterfall. The bedding is a mix of mystical patterns—moons, stars, and galaxies—creating a dreamy atmosphere. A vintage-looking vanity with a large, ornate mirror serves as both a practical space for getting ready and a magical focal point. String lights shaped like stars and moons adorn the room, casting a soft and enchanting glow. A central chandelier with delicate crystal pendants hangs from the ceiling, refracting light and creating a celestial ambiance. Along one wall, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves showcase an extensive collection of books, crystals, and dried herbs.
A plush, intricately patterned rug covers the polished concrete floor, providing a comfortable spot for meditation and yoga. The walls are adorned with artwork depicting mythical creatures, magical landscapes, and movie posters. The artwork adds a sense of wonder and fantasy to the room. A vintage record player sits on a small table by the door, playing enchanting melodies that fill the room. A small study desk, positioned under a window, is adorned with homework, post-it notes, and her Macbook. A cork board displays a myriad of handwritten notes, and concert stubs.
